6. Will roof rejuvenation remove black streaks, algae and stains from my roof?
Roof rejuvenation alone does not immediatley remove black streaks, algae, moss or organic staining. These issues are caused by biological growth which must be properly cleaned before any roof rejuvenation treatment can be performed. Immediate visual improvement requires the roof to be professionally soft washed using a low pressure application. Soft washing systems use sodium hypochlorite which is highly effective in killing algae and organic growth. However, sodium hypochlorite can have a drying effect on aging asphalt shingles if not followed by a roof rejuvenation treatment. For this reason soft washing should never be a final step. Some roof rejuvenation companies skip soft washing or charge extra for it. Others rely on soy-based products that can take months to show visual improvement, leaving the roof stained and unattractive in the meantime.
